The results of the Escapad * survey carried out by the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT) have just fallen! Results?

Consumption of alcohol, tobacco and cannabis is decreasing among 17-year-olds : less than 1 in 2 young people has already smoked marijuana or one of its derivatives, 7.3% of high school students consume regularly compared with 12.3% in 2003 , tobacco accounts for 29% of regular consumers, compared with 41.1% in 2000 (the date of the last study).

On the other hand, drug use such as cocaine, amphetamines, acids, heroin are rising sharply! In 2008, 3.3% of young people have already "sniffed a coke rail", compared with 0.9% in 2000 ; 1.1% of them have already tried heroin against 0.7% in 2005 . The fault of the starsystem whose tabloids constantly relay the gargantuan evenings and other debauches? In any case, Jean-Michel Costes, director of OFDT, said: "The incentives, including cocaine, benefit from a very positive representation among young people."

Another worrying growth is the consumption of poppers , these volatile substances to inhale which provide a euphoria of short duration: 13.7% of the young people tasted in 2008 compared to 5.5% in 2005 ! It must be said that they are easily found on the Internet and that their regulations are rather vague: in the United States, videos showing young people making a trip to salvia (the "sage of soothsayers") invade the canvas, it is to the one who will look the most stupid!

But why such a craze for these artifices? For 80% of the teenagers questioned, the drug is above all a means of celebrating ! But where do they have their heads? When we know that, in addition to their real health hazards, both short and long term, these drugs cause undesirable effects such as chills, depressions, feelings of well-being .... party we are talking!

* Survey conducted in 2008 among 40,000 17-year-olds.
