WHAT IS ACETONE?

Acetone is a solvent used to dissolve resins in nail polish . This solvent is also used to dissolve paints or glues. It is found not only in the cosmetics sector, but also in other sectors such as building or automotive. Acetone works as a degreaser that dissolves fats.
Even if we naturally find the molecule of acetone in the human body (in blood or urine for example), used as a solvent, acetone is dangerous.

WHY ACETONE IS BAD FOR NAIL HEALTH?

The chemical process of acetone is harmful to the health of our nails. Indeed, acetone consists of a soluble part with the fat and another part soluble in water. Thus, acetone will dissolve the oily layer that protects and nourishes our fingernail. The nail is therefore directly put in contact with the external aggressions; it is weakened and becomes brittle. Acetone will also attack the water present in our epidermis. This will become dry.

Is ACETONE DANGEROUS FOR HEALTH?

Clinical research has little interest in the dissolving relationship and human health. Some clinical tests in rats and animals have shown that high exposure to acetone causes kidney damage and reproductive problems. Repeated inhalations of acetone at a very high dose may be toxic. Some people have symptoms of airway irritation, sleep disturbances, loss of balance, vomiting, nausea, narcotic disorders, etc. You are reassured, these symptoms appear during prolonged exposure and high dose. These symptoms do not affect users of nail remover, even used daily.

SOME PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE

Nail polish removers containing acetone are not dangerous to health. Solvents are less dangerous than nail polishes, which contain, themselves, particularly harmful and volatile chemical molecules. Nevertheless, to limit the drying and weakening effect of acetone on the nails and the skin, we advise you to always use nail polish remover. Never use pure acetone. Ventilate the room in which you use your remover (and nail polish) before use. You can also test the solvent without acetone, which reduces the irritating effect on the nails.
