For a week, Tera environnement analyzed the presence of three hazardous substances (benzene, formaldehyde and phthalates) in nine voluntary crèches of the hexagon (Paris 19th, Villeneuve d'Ascq, Montpellier, Aix-en-Provence , Eybens, Annecy, Signes, Wittenheim and Sophia-Antipolis). The results of the survey are "of concern," says Patrice Halimi , Secretary General of the ASEF.

Indeed, 5 out of 9 establishments exceed the WHO prescribed benzene level and beyond which to breathe becomes potentially dangerous. Benzene , which often comes from circulation, paints and varnishes, can cause leukemia and lymphomas in children exposed to it.

Formaldehyde , a carcinogenic substance from certain paints, carpets, chipboard and plywood, was found in 4 out of every 9 crèches .
