Eco-friendly, sporty, the electric bike has more than one argument to make. Yet it is still difficult to cross the course.

Where should my engine be placed?

Ideally, the engine is the center. Ok, it's more expensive, but the bike is much more stable with a central motor at the pedals. As a result, it is easier to maneuver and tame. Good points when you want to go smoothly.

Small or large wheels?

Small! In any case, if you measure less than 1,65m, it is better to opt for 24-inch wheels, to be able to easily put your feet on the ground. Good to know: we choose our bike according to its morphology (yes yes as for clothes)! The more adjustments possible (height and inclination of the handlebar, suspension ...) the more comfortable you will feel. So we always try it before we buy it.

Weight, battery, what should you know before you buy?

A VAE is significantly heavier than a conventional bicycle (between 20 and 25 kg). In question ? The weight of the battery (5 or 6 kg), that of the engine and the frame. But in aluminum, it is lighter (and often more expensive)! Fortunately, when you drive, the cycling overload is quickly forgotten. Even on the hill. On the battery side, carbide to lithium is imperative. For autonomy, on short journeys (less than 50km A / R) one can be satisfied with a battery of 24V and 300 W. But if one wants to make long walks (and keep his battery longer) better to opt for a 36 Volts and 600 W.

How much does an electric bike cost?

From 650 € to ... 7000 €. With an average around 2000 € . Until January 31, 2018, the State pays 20% of the price of the bicycle up to 200 €. Some cities are even more generous (ex Paris: 33% and 400 €), so we go to town hall.
