Audrie & Daisy, a documentary with an anguishing story

With this new documentary, Netflix decided to tackle one of the most serious subjects: rape. Audrie & Daisy tells the story of three rape cases, including two young American students, Audrie Pott and Daisy Coleman. At the material time both were 15 and 14 years respectively.

But the story does not end there, because after this already terrible act, the students and their families were victims of cyber-harassment and violence, one of the victims even seeing his house burned. The documentary that traces their ordeal allows viewers to follow their story through time, via messages posted on social networks, court documents and police investigation.

Why should we watch Audrie & Daisy ?

Here, no prestigious casting to carry a project . Just a true, shocking story. Beyond the informative side, Audrie & Daisy is a very well documented documentary, nourished by police and judicial investigations. Presented at the Independent Film Festival in Sundance , the documentary was a great success. Netflix therefore jumped at the opportunity to enrich its database in more serious subjects. The proof that the VOD platform has a complete offering, which it is constantly expanding.

Audrie & Daisy: What did we like?

Well different from the lighter atmosphere of the Netflix series, this documentary is voluntarily shocking. Audrie & Daisy wants to pass a message, and uses the means to do it. The objective? To denounce, of course. But, above all, to alert and sensitize the public to the reality of rape, which affects one French woman out of six. All the more so as history goes beyond that, and denounces the way rape victims are blamed, considered responsible. Many topics are mentioned, including the particularly important one of online harassment, which tends to make more and more victims. Not to forget, of course, suicide.

You'll love it if ...

If you're a fan of comedies or a good-natured series, go your way. However, if you enjoyed previous documentaries, such as Make a Murderer, then Audrie & Daisy has quite the potential to convince you. Attention however, the result touches complicated subjects, and can therefore leave a vague feeling of discomfort. But this is the goal, since it is often necessary to shock to convince, these days.
