The series, Zabou Breitman (top photo) fell in when she was small, since her father, Jean-Claude Deret, created Thierry la Fronde in the 60s. "We were watching a lot together," she says. . At 5 or 6, I was making bets with him on what would happen next episode. A few decades later, she is at the helm of her own choral series, Paris etc., in which several characters spin in the same space-time, brush against each other, cross each other.

Our first subject is women

Particularity: they are five heroines. "Our main subject is women," says Anne Berest, who co-wrote the series with Zabou Breitman. What does it mean to be 20, 30, 40 or 50? What does each age confront us as a woman? With an assumed taste for fantasy, combined with a reminiscent writing that greedily indulges in the small complexities of today's city-dweller, the star-studded cast of Paris, and so on. will cross stories of a young provincial in full emancipation (Lou Roy-Lecollinet), a thirty-year-old man filled with doubts at this age both promising and uncertain (Anaïs Demoustier), two girlfriends in his forties (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi - photo opposite - and the formidable and explosive Naidra Ayadi), one finally love cycle, the other over-graduated and yet in acute precarious situation, and finally a new-age 50 (Zabou herself) arriving from Polynesia to settle in Paris private affairs left too long in suspense. "The woman and her cycles are really what irrigates the series," continues Anne Berest.

Sex in the crosshairs

"Paris etc." thus opens a multiple identificatory range, and will navigate with velocity between the hell of meetings of parents of pupils and the fear of aging, between ex too invasive and the vagaries of the desire. Because, of course, the question of sex is always in the line of sight, frontal, funny or complex. The series immediately announces the color with a tasty opening scene, and each episode
begins with a sex scene. "The very first is funny and a bit trashy," says Anne Berest, "but the following questions, each time from a different angle, the issues of couples and characters: what to do when your partner has desires that discourage you, or when your sex clicks are not at all synchronous? We ask real questions through these scenes. "

Paris, living matter, really functions as the sixth character in the series. It is a Paris after the attacks, present at the turn of a corner (that of Little Cambodia for example) or a line of dialogue. "These places belong to our collective memory, explains Zabou, it is no longer possible to film Paris today without taking it into account. For the first time, a French series takes note of this reality. It's moving, and right.

"Paris etc." from and with Zabou Breitman, also with Lou Roy-Lecollinet, Anais Demoustier, Valerie Bruni Tedeschi, Naidra Ayadi, from November 27 on Canal
