The use of labdanum in the field of perfumery
To integrate labdanum in a perfume, one must use its absolute. First of all, the concrete of labdanum is obtained by extraction of the volatile solvents. Then, alcohol is added to the concrete. Then, after evaporation of the alcohol, the absolute of labdanum is obtained. Its chords are warm, herbaceous, woody, waxy and a very resinous facet is present. More atypical for a plant-based component, labdanum releases animal and amber notes. That's why the noses appreciate it particularly. It comes very well in the composition of chypre fragrances such as "Profumo" by Acqua di Parma, woody fragrances like "Womanity" by Thierry Mugler, "Patchouli pour Homme" by Esteban and oriental fragrances like "Opium" by Yves Saint Laurent. In general, it is used in background notes and is part of the composition of feminine fragrances (especially chypre and oriental) and masculine fragrances (especially woody and oriental).
