Audrey Hepburn, muse and muse of perfumes Givenchy

In the early 1950s, the creator of the very young but promising Givenchy fashion house, Hubert de Givenchy, decided to create his own perfume company, like Dior, Chanel or Lanvin. He then joined his elder brother Jean-Claude. Their first two creations are called "The De" and "The Forbidden". The latter is specially made for the actress Audrey Hepburn, great friend of the creator. The star gracefully lends its image to the brand to embody this perfume. The advertising slogan sums up the spirit: "So far, only one woman in the world was allowed to wear this perfume, L'Interdit, created by Givenchy for Audrey Hepburn." Success is at hand, especially among the Anglo-Saxons. Two years later, the house released its first male fragrance, simply called "Monsieur". With its spicy and woody notes, it symbolizes all the elegance of the man seen by Hubert de Givenchy. The same year, another masculine perfume, "Vetyver", followed by "Givenchy III" in 1970, a floral chypre named after 3 Avenue George-V, the first address of the Givenchy house.

Birth of great classics of Givenchy

In the 1980s, the company Parfums Givenchy was bought by what would become the luxury group LVMH. In the 1990s, the creations are linked. 1991 marks the launch of "Amarige", a sparkling and floral fragrance whose name is an anagram of the word "marriage". In 1996, "Organza" is a beautiful tribute to the woman, and a light and transparent material very used in the world of haute couture. Another success in 1998 with "Pi", a powerful and fresh perfume at the same time going "A little further than the infinite". In the early 2000s is launched "Very Irresistible Givenchy", which will quickly become one of the great classics of the house. It is a new tribute to Audrey Hepburn, whose image is this time embodied by actress Liv Tyler. In 2006, a universe change with "Angel or Demon", a surprising Oriental perfume, both soft and sensual, and "Play", an ultramodern juice in a bottle in the form of MP3. In 2007, Givenchy fragrances celebrated their fiftieth anniversary by reissuing ten of their most legendary perfumes such as "L'Interdit", "Vetyver" or "Givenchy III". In 2011, "Dahlia Noir" was created under the direction of stylist Riccardo Tisci, artistic director of fashion at Givenchy. It is inspired by an imaginary flower with mysterious, powdered and carnal scents. It is followed by "Dahlia Divin", in 2014. The brand chose a new muse: the singer Alicia Keys.
