Leicester boss Matt O'Connor says Manu Tuilagi knows he made a mistake at England's recent training camp.

Tuilagi and Sale Sharks ace Denny Solomona missed the final session of England's three-day camp after being sent home by head coach Eddie Jones for breaching the team's code of conduct.

Described by the Rugby Football Union as "team culture issues", it is believed both players went out drinking and returned to the hotel in south west London drunk, much to the dismay of the management.

Both players are waiting to see whether Jones will take further action against them and it is unclear whether the duo will feature in the autumn series against Argentina, Australia and Samoa.

O'Connor says Tuilagi knows he has made a big error after being reprimanded but the Leicester boss is confident the 26-year-old centre will remain part of the Red Rose's immediate plans.

"He understands that he made a mistake. He knows he got it wrong," he told reporters at Welford Road on Tuesday. "He has come back with a renewed attitude. He understands what the standards are around the England environment.

"It was one of those things. He made a mistake, and retrospectively, he knows he made a mistake. He is moving forward now. I would be very surprised if it had further ramifications. Eddie is a smart guy."
