Fast food and balanced food do not mix!

This is at least what emerges from the CLCV survey published on Thursday 3 June. While the fast-food brands have made efforts to add salads, fruit and other healthy foods to their menu, the consumer association notes that the menus are always too caloric and too high in fat, especially for children .

"For a five-year-old boy spending a lot, they represent between 45 and 53% of the needs of the day, considerably more than the 37% covered on average by a lunch", calculated the association , which examined the nutritional quality of menus offered to children by four major chains: McDonald's, Quick, KFC and Brioche Dorée.

The latter has even the record for salt . Its most gourmet menu covers 58% of the estimated daily needs for a 5 year old.

Another observation is that children's menus, which are supposed to be less rich in calories , are shunned by the target for whom they are intended. 60% of 10-12 year olds do not order the Happy Meal menu at McDonald's, preferring a "Best of" or "Maxi Best of" . These menus are, in addition, often supplemented by another sandwich or a dessert, adds the CLCV.

The association therefore asks professionals to review the size of portions, excluding formulas too rich and offering menus suitable for different age groups.

She also wants the brands to remove large format offerings such as Quick's XXL, McDonald's Maxi Best Of or KFC's buckets from their menus .

These menus can "peak at more than 1,500 kilocalories, or three-quarters of an adult's daily needs," says CLCV.
