At the manicure you always hear "square, round or rounded square ..." And there, we rarely know what to answer. And when you file your nails at home ... You often improvise. Agathe Pons, manicure tips for Essie, gives us all the tricks to choose a manicure adapted to its morphology.

The shape of the nail related to the health of the nail

The quality of our nails and the care they give us play a decisive role in making the right choice of nail form. If the nail is very brittle, soft or split, it is best to stay on a simple manicure with short nails and rounded edges. Conversely if our nails are hard, we can afford (almost) all forms.

Manicure: how (finally) determine the right shape of the nail?

It all depends on the morphology of the hand. Not all nail shapes are suitable for all fingers. There is a simple test to determine how to file your nails and get the shape that will work best for us: lay your hand flat and look carefully at your nails.

- The nail is parallel . It is a nail where there is no reconciliation of the sides of the nail between the base and the top. The lines of your nail are straight as two parallel lines.

What form to give it? The "parallel" nails can almost afford everything: round shape, rounded or oval square. The only ones are really tailored to the pure "square" nail shape.

- The nail is shaped like a "trapezium" . This is the most common form. The top of the nail is more flared than the base, which gives a nail-like impression in the shape of a trapezoid.

What form to give it? For the trapeze nails, the ideal is to cut and file in "rounded square". This slightly oval shape allows to refine the finger.

Length also counts ...

Before choosing the shape of his nails, we must first ask ourselves if it will be able to combine easily with his way of life.

- Having a manual job, being a full-time mom, having hobbies such as gardening, do-it-yourself or cooking are not easily reconciled with perfect manicures with long, well-formed nails.

What about nails in the shape of almond?

This is one of the manicure trends of the moment. We saw it on the singer Rihanna in particular. But beware, the nail filed in the shape of almond does not go to everyone. It even quickly gives a fuzzy effect to the fingers. If you do not have long and thin fingers, it is better to pass our way to nailista.
