The association RESIST (Network of Support, Support, Information on Sterilization Tubes in France) announced via its website its intention to "launch a group action for the month of September against the laboratory Bayer to demonstrate the product defect and lack of information regarding Bayer's EssureĀ® implants. "

A collective procedure that concerns nearly 400 cases and which according to the information of the newspaper "Le Monde" would be motivated by the death of a woman on February 20, 2017. After a strong allergic reaction to nickel, she had removed her implant but died a few days later from a pulmonary embolism.

More benefits than risks according to health authorities

Created in 2016, the association RESIST gathers 1,200 adherents who denounced serious undesirable effects caused by this definitive and irreversible contraceptive device, which consists in placing a micro-implant in each fallopian tube in order to stop the passage of spermatozoa and to prevent any fertilization.

Testimonials widely relayed by the media, which had led the National Agency for Safety of Medicines and Health Products ANSM to address the problem.

In April 2017, it set up a Temporary Specialized Scientific Committee (CSST) composed of independent experts to evaluate the benefit-risk ratio of Essure.

The experts concluded that "new regulatory requirements were not necessary in the light of current scientific knowledge." The data in their possession did not allow to question the favorable benefit-risk balance of the Essure implant.

Case to follow.
