In terms of stove, there are two schools: with logs or pellets (also called pellets). Dilemma ! Overall, the pellet system is considered more economical, with better energy efficiency, but it all depends on the context. If you have the chance to "make" your wood, or if you have a nice neighbor who provides us at a price of friends, obviously, it changes the deal, not only in terms of cost but also energy independence.

Ultra practical, the pellet stove

The kezaco pellets? In the form of mini-cylinders, these clean fuels based on sawdust and compressed wood chips without adjuvant, have a high calorific value and very low residues. The pellets are sold in bags, we can choose the weight according to the available place (they are even sold by the tonne!) And they are stored very easily. For small spaces, on piveteaubois.com, one can even find a small bag of 10 kilos. On the budget side, there is approximately € 4.50 for a 15 kg bag.

The pellet stove is a breeze! We have (almost) nothing to do: It lights up electrically and it feeds automatically thanks to the integrated tank (from 15 to 35 kg according to the desired autonomy). In addition, it is programmable over several days, it has a thermostat, and according to the brands, it can even be adjusted via an app on our smartphone. Magic no? The only downside is its fan, heat dispatcher, it is often a little noisy. Finally, if it does indeed display a flame, forget the sweet sound of crackling logs.

A warm stove, the stove with logs

The wood stove has its charm. But for it to work at the top, and especially to avoid it clogs, we do not hesitate to run at full speed ! This means that it must regularly be fed with logs. For our small living room, it is therefore useless to buy a super powerful: 1 kw easily heats a room of 10 m2 , with a normal ceiling height. Another tip, stoves with a double combustion burning wood and gas generated are the most effective. With wood like the charm, the beech, or the oak, it is the assured success, and a perfectly heated interior. On the other hand, we forget the chestnut tree: its wood tends to burst, and the resins quickly foul the conduit. The only downside to the wood stove is that it takes space! And yes, to store a sufficient amount of wood, we need a shelter, protected from moisture: the wood must always be well dry, maximum 20% humidity. We do not forget, to feed a wood stove, our logs must measure at most 33 centimeters. So, are we going to get the ax?
