Hot wax and cold wax: different methods of waxing

Cold wax

His advantages

Waxing with cold house wax is ideal for small touch ups on holidays or weekends.
It is therefore simple and can be used everywhere.

Cold wax offers different formulas that protect sensitive skin. To find them, it's simple: just read on the packaging!

This method of epilation is economical: you can use the same band several times, knowing that its effectiveness decreases as and when it is used.
Moreover, the application of cold wax is fast thanks to its already ready bands, no need therefore, to heat the wax or to mix the ingredients to prepare it.
The latter come in different sizes and shapes that fit any part of the body and face . This method is, however, mostly recognized for its effectiveness in small areas.

Cold wax has the characteristic of tearing off the bulb of the hair . You get a clean skin for a relatively long time before regrowth (about 10 to 15 days).

It is also a good solution for those who suffer from a lazy blood circulation and who is contraindicated the warm wax that dilates the vessels.

Its disadvantages

At first, ladies, arm yourself with patience ! Waxing with cold wax can be laborious and painful , especially for non-expert hands. Rest assured, the expression "you must suffer to be beautiful" should not resonate in your head the day you find the helping hand.

It is also restrictive because, during application, not all hair can be effectively pulled out (especially the thinnest and shortest). It is therefore necessary to wait for a regrowth of at least 5mm, not very glamorous at the beach!

In areas where the hair does not grow homogeneously like the underarms, this method of hair removal is not very effective.

Finally, be aware that cold waxing is not recommended for the elderly, diabetics and people under acne treatment.

Hot wax

His advantages

Waxing with hot wax is the oldest methods . It is also one of the most effective: The hair is captured by the hot wax in its entirety because it expands the pores of the skin and thus facilitates the extraction of the hairs. This method ensures you to be very precise because its texture applies impeccably.

You can find hot wax in different shapes: beads of wax to be heated in a bain-marie, in the microwave or in an electric appliance, roll-on electric heating, pot of wax to pass in the microwave ...

Big advantages, this method of epilation allows to cover all the zones : the shirt, the mustache, the underarms, because you are free to choose the surface that you wish to depilate.

In addition, she feels divinely good, a true ritual that is fun !

The little extra, these are its washable bands . They allow you as many uses as there are wax in the pot.

Radical (it promises a clean skin for 4 weeks), it is the most practiced method in institute and one can also make oneself at home.

Its disadvantages

Obviously, hot waxing requires time and preparation . When the wax is heated in the microwave or in the water bath, it cools rather quickly, so it must be reheated in the epilation medium.

It is also a very tedious technique: the wax sticks to the hands, to the skin, to the tiles of the bathroom ...

Waxing with hot wax is constraining because you must wait until your hair reaches a length of 5 to 6 mm to consider it. It is therefore necessary to camouflage its gambols during the regrowth, not frankly pleasant during periods of intense heat!

Note that it is not recommended for people suffering from venous problems, insofar as it accentuates poor circulation of blood.

Finally, with this method of hair removal you are not safe from burning yourself if the wax is too hot.

1 / Take a shower

Taking a bath or shower before depilatory helps to dilate the pores and facilitate the removal of the hair smoothly.

Be careful, however, that the skin must be dry before depilation.

2 / Choosing the Right Time

When the hair reaches 3 or 4 millimeters , it is at this time of the cycle of the shoot that one must carry out the depilation ...

3 / Prepare your skin

It is strongly recommended to make a scrub the day before the epilation and regularly over the regrowth to avoid the small hairs that remain under the skin and form asperities. You can also use a horsehair glove to lift these little hairs under the skin.

It is very important to hydrate after depilation and daily , in order to allow the hair to better repel (oil, moisturizer ...). This will limit, for example, the risk of ingrown hair.

4 / Talc: your best ally

On wetlands (eg underarms), apply talc to promote adhesion of the wax to the skin.

5 / The gesture of pro

Apply the wax in the direction of the hair growth , then apply the band in the same direction.
Then, break the wrist and wrap the movement so as to remove the band parallel to the skin in the opposite direction to the hair growth.

6 / Pain and redness are calmed

To mitigate the small red traces following depilation, one can moisturize with an oil , such as sweet almond , which calms and nourishes.
And avoid hydro-alcoholic products .

7 / Slow down the growth

To slow hair regrowth, it is advisable to use an anti-regrowth care . His role ? refining hair and slowing down the regrowth process.

8 / Wax for all?

Prefer cold wax for women with blood circulation problems , the warm being very bad for the legs ...
