The electric toothbrush, more effective than manual brushing

There is no secret: to have a beautiful smile, you must brush your teeth morning and evening for at least 2 minutes. This good oral hygiene is the basis in the prevention of gum and caries problems. However, it is scientifically proven that people using a manual toothbrush find it difficult to master the right gesture and brush their teeth only 30 seconds to 1 minute, on average.

The electric toothbrush is therefore more effective because it allows us to brush our teeth: the timer built into most models pushes us to brush for at least 2 minutes.

No risk either to err on the move. The electric toothbrush works in our place, we just have to slide it along our teeth.

The benefits of the electric toothbrush on our oral hygiene are unequivocal. According to an independent study, published in June 2014, by The Cochrane Collaboration , the electric toothbrush allows us, in 1 month of use, to reduce the plaque of 11% and, in 3 months, of 21%.

Is the electric toothbrush suitable for all mouths?

Yes, the electric toothbrush is very suitable even for the most sensitive mouths. Contrary to popular belief, manual brushing is more aggressive than electric brushing. Electric toothbrushes are more and more sophisticated and offer us several modes of brushing for a personalized use.

We can therefore use an electric toothbrush if we wear a prosthesis or a dental appliance . But sometimes it is not enough ... In these cases for example, it is also necessary to use interdental brushes to remove the last stuck dirt.

Finally, if you tend to have inflammatory gum problems, you set your electric toothbrush to the sweetest mode it offers. On some models, you can also adapt the head of your toothbrush according to the expected brushing result.

How to choose your electric toothbrush?

According to oral health experts, there are 2 factors to consider when buying an electric toothbrush:
- The type of movement : electric toothbrushes with oscillating-rotating technology (which perform rotational movements) are recognized as more effective than sonic vibration electric toothbrushes.
- The size of the mouth : logically, we adapt the head of the toothbrush to our mouth and we make sure that the brushes are changeable .
Electric toothbrush battery, rechargeable or travel, we also opt for the model that best suits our lifestyle.
