The success story of the plant wall
It's been more than twenty years since the botanist Patrick Blanc threw the concept of the green wall in the air. Highlighted on façades as prestigious as those of the Cartier Foundation , the Museum of Primitive Arts or the Pershing Hall Hotel , in Paris, the vertical garden has today become democratized under the impetus of landscape architects, architects, inspired decorators and inventors. Their achievements are designed for both outdoor and indoor use . They adapt to all projects, modest or ambitious, and their intelligent design greatly facilitates the maintenance of plants.

►The principle is largely inspired by Patrick Blanc's green walls with some variants, according to the manufacturers, to reduce the weight of the structure or improve the watertightness.
► In practice . The landscaper comes to your home to take the measurements and evaluate the technical constraints. Inside, it is often necessary to provide lighting - daylight type - to compensate for natural light defects. The support wall must withstand the weight. Gardens of Babylone , a specialized landscaping workshop, indicates for example 12 kg / m2 for a planted and humidified plant wall. Automatic watering requires either a nearby electrical outlet (closed watering) or a water drain (open circuit). A range of plants - flowers or foliage - is proposed according to the exhibition and installed for an immediate finished rendering (from 25 to 30 small plants / m2).
► How much does it cost?

►These are ingenious and original concepts, cheaper than custom made and almost as simple to install as a board.
► In practice . We order via the Internet or by mail, but we can also buy in a shop or at a plant festival (see our addresses). The modules - delivered unplanted - can be installed alone or assembled to increase the vegetated surface. They are simply screwed to the wall, the surface in contact with the wall being waterproof. All that remains is to slide the small plants into the notches filled with potting soil. The difference is played at the watering level. Ideal when it is done automatically thanks to drippers powered by a small submerged pump connected to a timer (Ailanthus) and more tedious if you have to water the plants one by one (Flowall, Espace Buffon).

▪ Flowerbox makes it possible to compose its à la carte decoration from a palette of plants proposed on its website, with supports of all styles: a metal frame receives small magnetic pots removable, a totem of 2 mx ø 15 cm form a plant column ... The plants grow in sphagnum moss, a natural moss that has the advantage of keeping the moisture very long. Only downside, the watering, which is done with a pipette, requires a little patience.
